In-school programs
“Your work has truly helped us reflect on and rethink how we view recess and play at school. Watching students engage in new ways, collaborate creatively, and find joy through open-ended play has been incredibly meaningful. Your coaching and support also pushed us as adults to think differently about student independence, creativity, and engagement during recess.”
Supporting PLAY FOR STUDents at NYC SCHOOLs
Play is not frivolous – and it can support mental health, physical health, wellness, sustainability, climate action, and learning for your community of students.
Get in touch to discuss bringing more and better play to the children in your care. We look forward to hearing from you!

Field trips at The Yard
Field trips let students design their own outcomes in an environment that is meant for exploration, experimentation, and contemplation, facilitated by Playworkers who support children in their play with loose parts materials, building structures, and independent activities.

Professional Development
Professional development sessions provide examples of playwork, both theoretical and experiential, to increase the integration of self-directed play into school curricula and other environments. We leverage our resources and expertise to help you foster more and better play.
“play:groundNYC’s leadership listened carefully to our needs and worked with us to design a recess program that would work within our available play spaces. Using thoughtfully selected junkyard items, building materials, costume elements and much more, their trained playworkers helped transform our recess yard and school garden into magical realms of possibility for our students. ”
