FAMILY PLAY WORKSHOPS

Do you ever stand outside The Yard and wonder what’s going on in there? Would you like to experience the power of play by introducing more unstructured play into your family’s life?

Good news – our Family Play Workshops are back!

We are hosting Family Play Workshops throughout our 2026 season and we’d love for you to attend. If you’d like to learn more about the playwork philosophy and introduce child-led play into your family’s life, join us for a full afternoon of programming: a parent/guardian workshop, children’s play, and family time together in The Yard.

Details

• Cost: $45 - $100 sliding scale fee ($60 is our break even cost)

• Children must be at least 5 years old to participate (Children younger than 5 are welcome to play on the family side of The Yard during the workshop, but must be accompanied by an adult other than the adult participating in the workshop).

• Tickets include one adult and one child.

• This event is designed to support one-to-one play in The Yard, therefore one adult cannot register with two children. Each participating child must be accompanied by a participating adult.

Schedule for the day

3:00 - 4:00pm : Children play in The Yard + Parent/Guardian Workshop on the lawn with Yoni Kallai, play:groundNYC’s Program Director and Head Playworker

4:00-4:15pm short break

4:15pm Children play while Parents/Guardians observe/playwork in The Yard (with newfound knowledge!)

5:00pm Parent/Guardian Reflection (a built-in practice of all playwork) + children play some more

5:25pm Reflection for all participants of all ages together

5:40pm Walk to Ferry Terminal

6:00pm Ferry departs
